What's in a name?

BlueShark? Why?

You may think it odd to name a human capital business after a feared man-eater. The name was chosen initially as a tongue-in-cheek reference to our industry colleagues being often referred to as “Sharks”, and we knew blue ones were relatively harmless....

However, further research confirmed that Blue Sharks actually have a multitude of positive behavioural traits, many of which correspond with our way of thinking:

  • Swimming at up to 60mph, blue sharks are among the fastest fish (Speed);
  • They migrate over huge distances (Coverage);
  • They are found all over the world (Reach);
  • They have the largest viviparous litters (Scale);
  • While they are specialised in what they eat (Focus), they are more than capable of taking on prey much larger than themselves (No Role Too Large);
  • They rarely attack humans (Friendly), and;
  • They do not survive captivity (Resist Rigid Thinking)

So, if recruiters are sharks, when choosing your resourcing partners would you rather a lumbering filter feeder, an indiscriminate killer, or a highly focused, highly successful, globally present apex predator?
